I’ll start out by saying that “ A Christmas Carol” is my favorite book of all-time. I used to pretend otherwise, not wanting to be labeled a sentimentalist but now, having recently turned 66, I don’t seem to care anymore. 😊
Not everybody loves it. Mark Twain was no fan. “There is no heart,” he said. “No feeling—it is nothing but glittering frostwork.” This is, weirdly, the opposite of the usual objection to it – that it’s too full of unearned feeling, too sentimental.
