Some of you will recall the magical WORDTheatre event back in April dedicated to my work. My host for the evening, the founder and artistic director of the theater, Cedering Fox, sends along the following message for those of you in the Los Angeles area:
“We are hosting another event at the Moss Theater next Friday, September 13th, A WORDTheatre Tribute to Langston Hughes: Stories, Poems, Jazz & the Blues. The evening will begin at 5:30pm with food trucks, a DJ, booksellers, and voting registration and engagement opportunities. The performances will begin at 7:30pm with celebrated actors Charles Parnell, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Eugene Byrd, Marla Gibbs, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dohn Norwood, James Pickens Jr, L. Scott Caldwell, Tracie Thoms, Spencer Garrett & Jan Munroe as well as a world-class jazz band featuring Starr Parodi, Piano & Musical Director; Bernie Dresel, Drums; Logan Richardson, Saxophone; Nedra Wheeler, Bass; Chris Gray, Trumpet; and Amy Keys on Vocals. You can read more information about the event here.
With the 2024 Election looming, the words of Langston Hughes have never been more relevant, and the entire evening promises to be a celebration of his legacy and an opportunity to inspire audiences to take political action.”
Cedering has generously offered StoryClub members the same $10 discount that WORDTheatre members receive on tickets to the event. Here is the ticket link and please use coupon code FRIENDS13 for the discount. Any questions, please email Admin@wordtheatre.org.
Thanks, Cedering, and I hope some of you are able to attend. Those of you who attended the April event will know that WORDTheatre is not messing around - they are so dedicated to bringing literature to life, ad inspiring their audience.
Thank you for the offer but I'm stuck out in the Middle of the Atlantic hoping that the hurricanes miss us. Langston visited my family home Tranquillity and spent time with the writer Brian Burland and the painter John Kaufmann.
Thanks, George. Might we be able to do something by Langston in Story Club at some point? I love his words and work.
