An Event...
And some thanks
Hi All,
Just a quick note to thank all of you who, over on the far side of the paywall, are participating in an epic discussion of the use of AI in art.
Second, thanks for all the fond wishes and prayers for our dog, Guin, who is doing much better and has even been going for walks around the block these last few days.
Spent the day flying from LA to NY, for an event I’ll be participating in on Wednesday June 4 (that is…tomorrow? tonight? - writing this after midnight here), in which the National Book Foundation's honors its 2025 5 Under 35 honorees.
This year’s honorees are: Stacie Shannon Denetsosie (The Missing Morningstar and Other Stories), Megan Howell (Softie), Maggie Millner (Couplets: A Love Story), Alexander Sammartino (Last Acts), and Jemimah Wei (The Original Daughter).
(From the Foundation’s description of the event): “The honorees will be introduced on stage by five literary luminaries previously honored by the National Book Foundation: Mona Susan Power, Deesha Philyaw, C Pam Zhang, George Saunders, and Morgan Talty — and then will read from their debut works, in an event hosted by Justin Torres, 2012 5 Under 35 Honoree and Winner of the 2023 National Book Award for Fiction.”
I’ll be introducing Alexander Sammartino, author of Last Acts - a really wonderful, funny novel, so full of life and love of it.
Tickets are $12 in advance, and $15 at the door and here’s the Eventbrite link. Hope to see some of you there. The event is at Littlefield in Brooklyn: 635 Sackett Street.
More on Sunday (that is, if you….):

Glad to hear your dog is on the mend. I am from Australia and currently in India. I have been feeding a street dog with a badly broken leg in Delhi for the last two days. It is heartbreaking. We have left Delhi this morning. For those who are able I would love a prayer for this dog that others will continue to take care of it.
Thanks
Maree
George and Storyclubbers, may I have your attention, please?
There's this guy https://substack.com/@georgesaunderss1?utm_source=new-follower-email who claims to be George, but he is not. (Look closely at his mail address, there's an S more.) There are scumbags, pretending to be Michael Moore and Heather Cox Richardson, or any of the other superstars on Substack. To whom should we address this issue?
