Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone in the L.A. area know that tomorrow, October 25th, I’ll be moderating an event with Jenny Slate, launching her new book, LIFEFORM, which is a crazed, inventive, very moving memoir of sorts, tracking her progression through that stage of life where we go from single, free, and wondering if love will find us, to committed/responsible for people we love. I found it very moving and true, in the way it honestly accounts for all the terrors and joys of this period, and in way that it uses formal invention to hint at the complexity of it. She’s really a wonderful writer.
The event is from 7:30 – 9:00 pm at the Palace Theater, 630 S. Broadway, Los Angeles. You can purchase tickets here.Â
Looking forward to seeing some of you there. Jenny will do a 45-minute set from the book (with music). Then I’ll interview Jenny on stage for about twenty minutes, and we’ll open it up to audience questions.
If you know Jenny’s work (the Oscar-nominated Marcel the Shell, her Netflix special Stage Fright, her previous book, Little Weirds, for example), you’ll know that she’s a wild, compassionate, inspiring presence, and so much fun.
Thanks, and more on Sunday…
I love Jenny Slate - I saw her at Largo back in the day and it was one of the funniest stand up sets ever. BTW, her father is the poet Ron Slate who runs the great online lit mag On The Seawall.
Love her! Wish I could see you both.
I hope Marcel the Shell gets a question or two.
