Back to Work!
By way of an experiment.
Back home now, very happily, and I’d like to try an experiment I’ve been thinking about for years but have never tried on an actual class.
It’s simply this: even a great and beloved writer is going to show some range in the quality of his or her works. Might it be possible for us to learn something by looking at a work at the lower end of that range? Might an examination like this, of a “lesser” work, tell us something about what’s happening when that writer really hits the mark?
