Well, O.K., so I just sat down to reacquaint myself with “I Stand Here Ironing,” at the end of a long working day, not really feeling like I wanted to read fiction, read it, and burst into tears at the end. I went from resistant and indifferent to totally beside myself with shining sadness in the ten minutes or so it took me to read it.
Now, that’s a story.
