I’m still in Syracuse, my last full day here - meeting a small group for a concentrated discussion of a Chekhov story that we here in Story Club will be turning to next: “The Lady with the Dog,” sometimes rendered as “The Lady with the Pet Dog.” As we’ve done in the past, I’m going to switch the Comments off for this post, to give us each some quiet time to spend with the story. Thursday, I’ll do Office Hours, answering a question from the bulging mailbag over that at my Gmail account, and I’d ask us to not Comment about the story on Thursday.
Just, you know, “treasure these things (i.e., your ideas about the Chekhov) up in your heart,” and we’ll take it up next Sunday, a week from today.
Thanks to Bedford St. Martin’s Press and the translator, Ivy Litvinov, N.D., for this open-source version of the story.
Again, the story is here.
