This week, let’s pause to ask: what, if anything, is the essential difference between a story like “The Lady with the Dog” and one like “The School?” I think we ultimately want to argue that there isn’t any difference, especially in terms of how we approach analyzing them – but they do feel somehow different, in their intentions, in how they proceed and, maybe, in their baseline assumptions about what literature is for, and how it’s supposed to work.
