Those of you have been around from the beginning of Story Club will remember that I’ve assigned, along the way, a few admittedly silly exercises. In theory, these are supposed to kick the hornet’s nest that is the artistic mind, just to see what happens, and are based on the assumption that the writer that we might ultimately be is not necessarily the writer that we are at the moment — and sometimes a little disruption is helpful in shaking off old habits.
Well, here we go again.
This is called the Automatic Novel Chapter and we did it, with much fun and uproar, a few times back in the Syracuse program in the mid-2000s.
Just set a little time aside (not too much), open up the laptop, or dip the old quill pen into the ink, whatever….and follow the instructions below.
