"The Jilting...."
Some questions, including the biggest one of all.
Hi everyone,
Am in the middle of a busy period – traveling for the paperback and also doing an intensive weekend of teaching at Syracuse – so, what I’d like to do is just launch a few questions your way on “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” for you to consider in the Comments.
I’ve been reading this story for about forty years now and I can see what an influence it had on me. I pick up traces of it in “Mother’s Day” and “Lincoln in the Bardo” and other stories, for sure. It’s in a long tradition of stories that purport to represent the moment of death. I find myself, as I get older, more and more, uh, interested in this moment.
