Hi all,

I’m in Syracuse this weekend, teaching my brilliant third-year students, in the same room where I had classes all those years ago with Tobias Wolff and Douglas Unger and Hayden Carruth - a very deep experience.

Here’s a little glimpse into my odd mind: I was standing at the counter in the mail room, making coffee, and it occurred to me that these were the same exact counters that were here when I was a student, and that meant that Raymond Carver had stood at, and touched, that very same countertop.

And that made me strangely happy.
